Motomi Matsubara (まつばら もとみ)
Moto is an architecture designer and researcher based in Los Angeles, Kyoto. He was born in Nagano, Japan, and raised in Kawasaki and Beijing, and he is fluent in Japanese, Chinese, and English.
Moto started his architecture study at Keio University in 2015 but also studied under Norisada Maeda at his private school of architecture. He continued his study on architectural design methodology and architecture theory at Sey Kiyoshi Takeyama Lab at Kyoto University, followed by Yosuke Komiyama Laboratory. In 2020, Moto started to study at UCLA Master of Architecture and Urban Design. In 2022, he received Franklin D. Israel Memorial Fellowship and Welton Becket Scholar Awards and graduated with distinction in 2023.
He is appointed as Lecturer in UCLA for co-teaching 401.3 Advanced Topic Studio with Takaharu and Yui Tezuka on Fall quarter 2024.

Moto is a fillet lover, engaging in the research about how does the fillet contribute and be influenced by the culture. Filingfillets is the archive of the fillets from 20th century's industrial design but also architecture. Moto presented his fillet research at several conferences such as AIJ 2024, ISAIA 2024.
